The Waverly Shell Rock School Board has received an update to the work going on at the new Prairie West Elementary and the renovation of the Shell Rock Elementary schools. Estes Construction reported that Prairie West is about two months away from completion. The work on the Shell Rock Elementary is a little further away from completion. They expect that to be done sometime in July. Shell Rock students are currently attending the other new Waverly elementary, North Ridge. The board also approved a total of $1.44 million for furniture for the three elementaries. The Shell Rock furniture will cost a little more than $309,000, North Ridge furniture will be more than $560,000, and Prairie West’s will cost more than $566,000. The board also set a date for the sale of Carey Elementary. On March 19th the school will be sold to Bartel’s Lutheran Retirement Community for $40,000. Bartel’s plans to expand housing for seniors. West Cedar Elementary will be sold to the Waverly Municipal Housing Commission.
