The Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier looked into enrollment changes at public schools in the area from last school year to this one. Thanks in large part to Education Savings Accounts, which give public money to students to pay for tuition at private schools, nearly every public school in the KWAY listening area saw enrollment drop. Only two schools avoided losing students, Wapsie Valley added three students while Denver stood pat with the same enrollment this year as last. Every other public school lost enrollment, including Waverly Shell Rock, which lost 119 students, or just over 5% of their enrollment. Clarksville lost five students, about 2% of enrollment. Janesville lost 17 students, nearly 4% of enrollment. Dunkerton had the largest loss in percentage of student body at just over 6%, a total of 24 students.Tripoli lost four students. Sumner Fredericksburg lost 26 students, 3.5% of their student body. Each student represents just over $8,000 in funding for schools.
