A sex offender who escaped the Waterloo Residential Correctional Facility in February was taken back into custody on Monday, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 26 year old Darrion Jones checked out of the facility on February 4th to go to the hospital. After leaving the hospital he failed to return to the facility as required. He was finally located on Monday and charged with Voluntary Absence and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. He had been placed in the facility after being caught breaking into the Savvy Bean coffee shop and the Dark Rose Salon last May. He was required to register as sex offender after traveling to Cook County, Illinois to meet a minor in 2019. He moved to Waterloo in July of 2022.
