Police and the Iowa State Fire Marshall’s Office responded Wednesday to an explosion in Buchanan County in Independence, where East Elementary School was once located. The bomb squad was on the scene and found the remaining part of a device, which appeared to be made from a garbage bag and black electrical tape. No arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation.
