Failure to Register as Sex Offender Leads to Prison Time

A man from Washington State has been sentenced to prison time for failing to register as a sex offender when he moved to Waterloo, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 36 year old Dean Upton was arrested in King County, Washington in 2013 for child molestation for an incident in 2008. He would plead to a lesser charge and was sentenced to one year in prison. After his release he moved to Waterloo to be closer to family. In May of 2020 he was involved in a chase with police. Three months later a federal grand jury indicted him for failing to register. He was arrested by US Marshals who found him hiding in a cardboard box in his mother’s attic.
