Eastern Iowa farmers picked up the pace this past week as harvest progress for the state’s corn and soybean crops got closer to average.
The USDA crop report for Iowa shows farmers have harvested 67% of all the corn in fields. The soybean harvest is virtually complete at 92%.
That’s still several days behind the five-year average for both crops but an improvement over the figures from just a week ago.
Despite the delay, the corn crop is largest than expected.
Of course, that creates another problem—finding more storage space for a larger-than-expected corn harvest. But farmers say that’s a good problem to have.
