The following is from the Waverly Police Department.

On 08/14/2026, the Waverly Police Department finished an investigation into Financial Exploitation of older individuals that occurred against two Waverly residents. An arrest was made of Renee Lynne Owens (49) of Waverly for Financial Exploitation of older individuals; the charge is a Class B Felony, causing over $34,000 in financial loss. A Class B Felony is punishable by up to 25 years in prison and/or fines up to $100,000.

Jonathon Paul Owens (27) of Charles City was also charged with a Class D Felony of the same charge, his charge resulted in approximately $4,000 in financial loss. A Class D Felony is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and/or fines up to $10,245.
