A popular restaurant in Cedar Falls sustained only minor damage from a grease fire, thanks to an upstairs tenant. Cedar Falls Fire Chief John Bostwick credited the actions of Andrew Hancock for saving Horney Toads from much more damage. In the early morning hours Monday a fire alarm sounded at the restaurant. Hancock reported the fire and then used a fire extinguisher to put out a grease fire. By the time firefighters arrived on scene the fire was completely extinguished. Bostwick says improperly stored cleaning rags were to blame for the fire after spontaneously combusting. No injuries were reported. Horney Toads is expected to reopen Tuesday.
