Fire Captain Brad Sherwood, age 56, died at his home in Grundy County, Iowa on February 23rd, 2024. The Grundy County Medical Examiner has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Captain Sherwood joined the Cedar Falls Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in 1997. Four years later, in 2001, he was hired as a firefighter. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2009. He received many awards and commendations throughout his career and he was honored as the Fire Department’s Fire Officer of the Year for 2015.

“Captain Sherwood was an outstanding leader and even better person. I’ve never met anyone who didn’t like Brad. He was a pleasure to work with and he always created a family atmosphere on his shift. His skillset will be missed – and be hard to replace” Fire Chief John Zolondek.

“Captain Sherwood was a caring and passionate leader. He always brought out the best in his team. He loved his job, always had a smile on his face, and will be missed by many in our community” Director of Public Safety Craig Berte
