Cedar Falls Firefighters and police officers cross trained as firefighters, known as Public Safety Officers, responded to a fire at 1821 Walnut Street. Once they arrived they found the second floor of the residence on fire. The homeowner, who had made the call to 911, relayed that he had been doing some work on the home when some insulation caught fire. The homeowner tried to extinguish the flames before calling 911. Fire crews were able to put out the blaze but not before extensive damage was done to the second floor of the home. 27 Public Safety Officers and Firefighters responded to the call.
