Rain and melting snow is leading to greater chances for flooding in many spots around the area. One of those spots is the North Cedar area of Cedar Falls. In addition to the rain and snow the Cedar Falls Police Department says that the water level upstream on the Cedar River is expected to be higher than what the gauge reflects due to the flood gate being frozen shut. Some streets in that part of the city have already been closed and some residents have reported water flowing into their basements. Flood clean up kits are being offered in the porch of Fire Station #2. Sand and sandbags are available, free of charge, at the Bluff Street Complex. Shovels are available but they are asking that you bring your own shovel. The river is expected to crest in Cedar Falls sometime around noon Saturday.
