Florida Man Swindled Fairbank Couple

A Florida man has been arrested for allegedly swindling a Fairbank couple of $13,000, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 27 year old Keyshaun King of Pompano Beach, Florida was arrested and charged with first degree Theft. They say he or an accomplice contacted a rural Fairbank couple pretending to be an attorney and saying that their daughter had been in an accident with a pregnant woman and was in jail. She needed $13,000 in order to be bailed out. Not long later a nicely dressed man wearing a big, fancy hat and a surgical mask arrived at their home to pick up the money. The crash never happened, however, and the daughter was not in jail. Investigators caught a break when a similar scheme in Belle Plaine for $9,000 was undone by security cameras which showed King parking his car a block away from the victim’s home. The license plate was tracked to rental company in Omaha and the GPS put King in Belle Plaine, Fairbank, and Marion. He also ran the scheme on a woman in Marion, who handed over $20,000. In that case, the woman was on the phone with the “attorney” when King showed up to collect the money.
