A Wapsie Valley grad and former football coach has been punished by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for what they call an inappropriate relationship with students, according to KCRG.
Cole Mather had been the football coach at Dyersville Beckman since 2023, winning District Coach of the Year in 2025. In March the school announced that he was “moving on”. In January the BOEE issued a finding of probable cause against Mather citing an inappropriate relationship. In their report, the issue was that he told his players they were like family and he took two players to an Iowa State football game with the permission of their parents. Mather has denied any wrongdoing but has agreed to take an ethics class. He also has received one year of probation and a written reprimand on his teaching license.
