Last week we told you that a former Waterloo Police Chief was no longer with the force he left Waterloo for and now we know the nature of his departure, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Joel Fitzgerald was terminated for cause from the Denver Regional Transport District on September 20th. Colorado Public Radio found that Fitzgerald had routinely driven his district owned vehicle 90 to 100mph between Denver and his home in Colorado Springs. He also rarely showed up for work, averaging being at work just nine times per month. In May he worked just three days. Fitzgerald joined the RTD after leaving the Waterloo Police Department following a tumultuous tenure. He spent most of his time as Chief of Police not in Waterloo at all, instead in Texas with his family. He recently won a $5.2 million settlement from the city of Fort Worth, Texas from the time he served as chief of that police force.
