Former Clarksville Officer Gets 15 Years in Prison After Appeal

A former Clarksville police officer who won an appeal that trimmed 11 child exploitation charges down to five has been handed the same sentence as before, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Michael Tobin Jr. won an appeal that said asked for the dismissal of six charges based on a lack of evidence, however at his resentencing in Butler County on Monday he was once again sentenced to 15 years in prison. That sentence is made up of two concurrent 10 year sentences and five years of sentences for several misdemeanors. Tobin showed photos that were part of an investigation into another child sexual predator in Clarksville to a 16 year girl who frequently was with him for the Ride Along Program. He also had a sexual relationship with the girl while on duty, including at the police station and in the Waverly Shell Rock High School parking lot while the girl was on her lunch break. Once Tobin is released from prison, he will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
