Former Employees Sentenced for Arson

Two former employees at the Arby’s in Evansdale have been sentenced for attempting to set the restaurant on fire, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 29 year old Ashley Lucas, the manager at the time, returned to the restaurant after hours on April 29th. Security camera footage showed her dumping lighter fluid inside the restaurant and spraying an aerosol substance on the floor of the office. 21 year old Kyle Gilson can be seen and heard in the footage talking to Lucas about the presence of smoke alarms. The pair laid rope underneath the back door, which they then set on fire. The fire triggered an automatic alarm to police, who quickly responded and extinguished a small fire near the door. The blaze caused minor damage and no one was injured. Lucas and Gilson were both granted deferred judgments for charges of second degree Arson. The charge will be wiped from their records if they successfully complete probation.
