Former Kmart Getting a Tenant

The former Kmart store on University Avenue in Waterloo will soon have a new tenant, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. U-Haul says they plan to use 50,000 square feet of the 106,000 square foot building to house 680 storage lockers of varying sizes. There will also be 125 storage boxes in the parking lot along with 48 covered spaces for RVs. The current U-Haul building across the street is expected to stay open at this time, however it may join the Kmart building at some point in the future. 16 new employees will be hired at the former Kmart building, which has sat abandoned since 2017, when Kmart filed for bankruptcy.
