A former Shell Rock man has been sentenced to prison as part of a child pornography investigation that began in Australia, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 33 year old Mychal Olson was sentenced to six years in prison on a charge of Receipt of Child Porn. He will also serve 10 years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender. An investigator with the FBI said the photos and videos found on Olson’s phone were by far the worst content he had reviewed and that the level of violence depicted was not common in his experience. Nearly 14,000 photos and videos of child porn were found on Olson’s phone. 122 of those involved infants or babies and 264 involved sadomasochism and/or children being tied up. Investigators in Australia came across Olson’s information in 2019 and forwarded that to U.S. Homeland Security and officers with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
