A former UNI quarterback is back in jail after escaping from a substance abuse facility in June, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 33 year old Tirrell Rennie of Waterloo, who quarterbacked the Panthers in 2010 and 2011, originally was arrested in January of 2022 after he got into a scuffle with police who were investigating a suspicious person at a Walgreens. During the scuffle Rennie attempted to disarm the officer. He was charged with Disarming a Peace Officer, Assault on a Peace Officer, and Interference. Before his trial could begin he was ordered to seek in-patient substance abuse treatment. He began treatment at Prairie Ridge Integrated Behavioral Healthcare in Mason City. At that point the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office was relieved of supervising Rennie, with that task now in the hands of the treatment facility. They notified the court that Rennie had escaped on June 6th. He was recently recaptured just outside Atlanta, Georgia.
