Former Waterloo Chief No Longer Employed in Denver

Former Waterloo Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald is no longer the chief of the Denver Regional Transport District but it is unclear if he was fired or quit, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Fitzgerald’s last day was on Friday but he had been on leave since July after he was found to have driven his unmarked agency vehicle 90 to 100mph in a 75mph zone frequently between his home in Colorado Springs and Denver where he worked. He also rarely was at work, averaging being at work just nine days a month. In May he went into work just three times. Fitzgerald left his post in Waterloo to take the RTD position. He rarely was in Waterloo, however, spending most of his time in Texas with his family. His departure from RTD comes a month after he won a $5.2million settlement against the city of Fort Worth, Texas. Fitzgerald said he was fired as chief there just before he was going to go to the FBI with information on the city’s use of the national law enforcement database.
