Girls Union and Boys Association Still Seperate

A recent article in the Cedar Rapids Gazette written by Erin Jordan, discussed why girls and boys high school athletics are governed by separate organizations. In that article the Executive Director of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, Jean Berger said, “When you talk with young boys, they focus more on winning. (With girls) it has to be fulfilling.”

While Waverly Shell Rock Athletic Director Dave Litterer acknowledges there may be data to back that statement up he sees another reason why students participate in extra curriculars.

Litterer shied away from definitively coming down on one side or the other on whether the two should merge, but he did say both do very good work.
