A La Porte City family has donated $250,000 to have a new gym named after their daughter, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Matt and Sarah Craft made the donation in order for the new gym to be named after Kate Craft, a former Union student-athlete who died last year after a two year battle with brain cancer. Part of the agreement says the new gym should be more readily accessible to the community than the current one. The gym is part of a $20.5million bond referendum that Union School District voters will consider on November 5th. Kate Craft was a standout athlete in basketball, swimming, soccer, and track and field.
