Two Iowa State Patrol Troopers have been honored for their efforts to save a person from a car on fire near Dunkerton in 2021, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Troopers Devin Brooks and Boyd Eser were on hand at the ceremony in Des Moines on Friday to be honored with the Sullivan Brothers Award for Valor. The two were returning to their post in Oelwein on July 1st of 2021 when they heard about a collision at Cedar Wapsie and North Raymond roads outside Dunkerton. When they arrived they found one car on fire. Passersby had broken out the back window, Brooks climbed through that while Eser doused the flames with a fire extinguisher. Brooks was able to pull the driver to safety, unfortunately he was unable to get a pinned passenger out as the fire raged on despite Eser emptying seven extinguishers.
