One person has been detained following a high-speed chase that came to an end in a farm field south of Janesville Thursday morning. The name of the fleeing driver wasn’t immediately available; authorities said he refused to identify himself. The pursuit began south of Nashua when a trooper with the Iowa State Patrol spotted the black Chevrolet Impala with North Dakota plates speeding on Highway 218.The Impala refused to stop, and the chase continued south on 218, and officers from other agencies including Motor Vehicle Enforcement and the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office became involved.
At one point, the fleeing car left the highway at a Waverly exit and then drove down an off ramp, returning to the highway heading south in the northbound lane, according to troopers.
Authorities set up Stop Stick devices at Highway 3 and at Janesville, and at least one of the Impala’s tires went flat. The car stopped in a ditch near mile marker 192 south of town, and the driver ran into a field where he was captured.
