Hinson Running for Senate

Ashley Hinson, who currently represents this area in the United States House of Representatives, has announced that she will run for Joni Ernst’s seat in the United States Senate. Ernst recently announced that she would not run for re-election. Her announcement comes after she attempted to quell worries over Medicaid at a townhall by saying, “well we all are going to die.” A follow-up video made by Ernst from a cemetery attempted to make fun of the comment. Almost immediately several Democrats announced their intentions to run for her seat including state Senator Zach Wahls, state Representative Josh Turek, Jackie Norris, and Nathan Sage. Former Democrat state legislator Bob Krause has also now announced his candidacy for Ernst’s seat. Two other Republicans have also entered the race: state Senator Jim Carlin and Joshua Smith. Hinson is seen as the strongest Republican candidate. She is a strong ally of President Donald Trump and says her priorities lie in securing the Southern border, supporting Iowa agriculture, and strenghthening Medicaid and Social Security. She is a former anchor at KCRG and lives in Marion.
