Allen Media Group, the parent company of KWWL, has reversed course on their decision to fire all local meteorologists in favor of The Weather Channel, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. They say that based on an immense amount of backlash from viewers and advertisers they have decided to scrap the project on a company-wide basis. The plan would have let go of every local meteorologist from 24 stations in 21 markets from Massachusetts to Hawaii. The Weather Channel, which is also owned by Allen, would have then stood in for weather coverage. The Courier says they received nearly 700 comments on their initial story which were nearly unanimously negative. KWWL Chief Meteorologist Mark Schnackenberg responded to the news on Facebook by posting the words “thank you” in all caps.
