Jury Deciding Fate of Man Accused of Injuring Baby

A jury is deliberating on if a Waterloo man injured his three month old son, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 30 year old Kevin Faulkner has been charged with child endangerment causing serious injury. The baby’s mother brought the baby to a clinic for what she thought was thrush. The Nurse Practitioner noticed bruising and swelling on the baby’s head to which the mother claimed had been caused by the baby rolling into the side of a pack and play. The Nurse Practitioner found that unlikely and notified law enforcement. Upon further inspection the baby also had bruises on the his chest and broken ribs in the process of healing. Faulkner said a doctor suggested squeezing the baby in a bear hug to help with the baby’s constipation but the defense argued that would not have been forceful enough to break ribs. The mother testified that a family member with behavioral problems had lived in the house as well as someone with a drug problem as two other possible suspects.
