Cedar Falls Public Safety has announced that K9 officer Boona will be medically retired. The dog’s trainer and breeder informed Public Safety that Boona suffers from extreme canine anxiety. She had stopped responding to high pressure situations but it was ultimately decided that medical retirement was the best solution for the dog and the department. Officer Mike Marcotte, the K9 handler, will be undergoing K9 training in September with a new dog that has already been selected. The training and new dog are provided at no cost by Tree Town Kennels, LLC. Boona will be returning to her breeder to be retrained for a new occupational field.
