Large Gift Prompts Dorm Renovations

A two million dollar gift from American Family Insurance CEO Jack Salzwedel and his wife Sarah was the seed that led to a fundraising campaign at Warburg College to renovate two dormitories, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The campaign has a goal of nine million dollars to renovate Centennial and Vollmer Halls, both of which were built in the 1950s. In addition to upgrading things like the electrical and plumbing systems, the hope is a more inclusive environment will be developed with eight suites for students with specific needs. Gender neutral housing will also be offered, there will be laundry rooms on every floor, the lounge area will no longer be sunken, ramps will be installed, and new, full kitchens will be added. The College has already raised $5.1 million and hopes to begin work in the spring to be completed by the fall semester of 2022. The Salzwedels are both 1982 alumni from Madison, Wisconsin.
