On May 8th, 2022, at 1:31 PM, Cedar Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residential fire in the 1100 block of Carriage Ln. in Cedar Falls. Dispatch had received a call from the residents reporting that there was smoke coming from their basement at 1121 Carriage Ln. Fire crews arrived on scene and found fire and black smoke coming from the west side of the residence. Firefighters confirmed that everyone was out of the home and extinguished the fire. A large tree next to the residence had sustained a direct lighting strike, which damaged the west side of the residence and ignited the fire next to the air conditioning unit. The homeowners were home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. The home sustained minor structural damage to the outside.
