The newly organized Waverly Art Center and the Wartburg Community Symphony will be holding a competition for area artists. The competition will highlight the connections between art and music in Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”. The work will be featured by the symphony at Saturday, October 17th’s program. Artists should listen to the music for inspiration and create work that is not literal but matches the theme. Winners will get $50-$125 and their work may be projected during the concert. Participants may also be invited to showcase their work at the Waverly Art Center exhibition from October 8th to the 30th in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery at Wartburg. Two dimensional submissions must be 8 inches by 10 inches or larger and unframed. Entries must be submitted in person at the main desk of the Wartburg College Vogel Library between September 21st and October 2nd.
