The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a scam going around. The scam involves an individual acting as a Sheriff’s deputy telling a victim there is a warrant out for their arrest. The victim is told to put money on a prepaid gift card and call them back. The victim calls back, leaves the card info and the suspect has your money.
Captain Mark Herbst talks about the people that appear to be targeted in this scam.
Herbst says if you receive a call make sure it is the Sheriff’s Office’s number before sharing any information.
