An attempt to prevent any special events from taking place in the downtown Cedar Falls area at the same time as Sturgis Falls has failed, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Sturgis Falls organizers had called for no special events permits to be issued during the last weekend in June but a city council vote of 4-3 rejected that change. A summer concert series known as Live to 9 is seeking to hold events that weekend at a new plaza at East Second and State streets in the River Place development. Kyle Henderson, an organizer of the Cedar Basin Music Festival and Live to 9 board member, told the paper that their goal is to being more people downtown by providing another quality event.
