Major Newspaper in Iowa Cutting Back

One of the biggest newspapers in the state has announced they will cut back significantly on their publishing, according to KCRG. The Cedar Rapids Gazette will begin publishing only on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays beginning on February 17th. Previously they had published every single day of the week. The Gazette says the costs of producing and delivering the print edition continues to increase while the number of readers and advertisers continues to decline. The price of a subscription will stay the same despite consumers receiving less than half of the newspapers they originally paid for per week. They say they will continue to produce daily coverage online. The Telegraph Heald in Dubuque recently announced a a similar plan to cut their publishing. They are moving to schedule of Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays beginning on February 15th.
