Man Accused of Defrauding Grandma

A Waterloo man has been arrested for using his grandmother’s checks to purchase a vehicle without her knowledge, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 51 year old Shane Kirby allegedly used his grandmother’s checks in August of 2019 to purchase a vehicle for over $30,000. His grandmother was in a medically induced coma at the time. She died in May. Kirby has been charged with first degree theft. He was released from jail pending trial. He is also awaiting trial on theft charges for allegedly taking an acquaintance’s vehicle trailer in Evansdale in December.
