Man Accused of Insurance Fraud

A Charles City man has been accused of faking a car accident in order to collect insurance money, according to KIMT. 39 year old Zachary Robbins has been charged with first degree Arson, Insurance Fraud, and False Report of an Indictable Offense to a Public Entity. Law enforcement claims Robbins and an unnamed individual faked a car crash on March 13th of 2019 at an intersection in Mitchell County. Investigators say the two vehicles were deliberately crashed and then Robbins set fire to his vehicle, causing an explosion that destroyed the vehicle and everything inside. Robbins allegedly lied to the insurance company in an attempt to collect a more than $70,000 payment.
