Man Allegedly Threatened Utility Worker Then Had Standoff with Police

Waterloo Police took a man who allegedly threatened a utility worker into custody Monday after a several hour standoff, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Police were first called just before 10:00 a.m. Monday to a home at 616 Ash Street. A man later identified as 36 year old Antonio Harris was allegedly threatening a utility worker. Police calmed the situation but they were then called back to the scene at around 12:15 p.m. after Harris allegedly set a utility pole on fire. The fire burned itself out but when police arrived on scene, Harris retreated into his home and refused to come out. Finally at around 5:00 p.m., police used a BearCat tactical vehicle to knock down the door of the home and knock out the windows. They then fired pepper balls into the home, which encouraged Harris to emerge. He was taken into custody and charge with third degree Arson and third degree Criminal Mischief.
