A Waterloo man has been arrested for allegedly beating a woman in an elevator in a downtown apartment building last week, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 48 year old Nathaniel Smith allegedly followed a woman into the elevator on the 8th floor of the Hotel President on Tuesday night around 10:30pm. While inside the elevator he accused the woman of following him. He then allegedly pulled a knife and threatened to kill the woman. Once they reached the first floor, he kept her on the elevator and allegedly started punching her. The woman grabbed a mop in an effort to protect herself. Smith allegedly wrestled it away from her and swung it at her. He then fled the scene before being taken into custody on East Fifth Street. Smith has been charged with Assault, Assault With Bodily Injury, False Imprisonment, Assault with a Weapon, first degree Harassment, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Public Intoxication. He was also on probation for stealing vodka and $60 worth of frozen shrimp from All-In Grocers and $88 worth of items from Dollar General.
