A Black Hawk County man has been arrested for allegedly killing his grandfather over the weekend, according to KWWL. Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 100 block of South Elk Run Road at around 8:40 p.m. When they arrived on scene they found signs of a struggle inside the home before finding 75 year old Gale Mervin dead. They then found 21 year old Eric O’Connell II hiding in another room. They both lived in the home. O’Connell was taken to Allen Hospital for an evaluation. Once he was released, he was taken into custody. Authorities say O’Connell admitted to killing his grandfather. He has been charged with first degree Murder and is being held without bond.
