A Waterloo man has been charged in connection with a crash in October that sent the other driver to the hospital with spinal injuries, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 77 year old Roosevelt Walker Jr. has now been charged with Serious Injury by Vehicle and second offense Operating While Intoxicated. Police allege that Walker was intoxicated when he ran a stop sign at East Donald and Idaho Streets at around 10:15 p.m. on October 5th and collided into the back of another vehicle. That collision sent the other vehicle into the ditch where it hit a tree. The driver, Patrick Sumerall, was taken to Allen Hospital before being transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for spinal injuries. Doctors had to place six permanent screws as part of a spinal fusion procedure. Walker’s blood alcohol level was measured at .121 and he had THC in his system at the time of the crash. He has been released pending trial.
