Man Convicted of Stalking Judge

A Gilbertville man has been convicted of stalking a judge, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 39 year old Kyle Roberts was convicted on Friday of Stalking Using a Technological Device or While Subject to a Restraining Order. Roberts developed a pattern of harassing Judge Michelle Wagner for years in emails, social media posts and court filings. Wagner was an assistant county attorney in 2014 when she helped prosecute Roberts for stalking his neighbor’s daughter when he lived in Raymond. Roberts began sending letters to Wagner while he was in prison. Once he got out, he spray-painted messages condemning the courts on his house. The court had to develop plans to safeguard Wagner, including having deputies accompany her on lunch breaks and escort her to her car after work. Roberts represented himself in court where he argued many of the messages were not sent directly to Wagner but forwarded by others. He did concede one of the messages was “somewhat threatening.” He will be sentenced at a later date.
