Man Headed to Prison After Pointing Ghost Gun at Police

A Waterloo man is headed to prison after pointing a ghost gun at police, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Police were called to the 2400 block of West Seventh Street in February on a report that 26 year old Daytrell Washington-Roby was choking his girlfriend in a vehicle. Police found him on foot nearby. Washington-Roby then pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed at an officer in a squad car before tossing it into a yard and continuing to walk away. He was eventually taken into custody and the gun was retrieved. The gun turned out to be made from a kit, with no traceable serial number. Washington-Roby has been convicted of Felon in Possession of Ammunition and sentenced to up to five years in federal prison. He was already on supervised release for his role in a 2019 shooting in Cedar Rapids and for possessing nine guns illegally. For that reason, two more years were added to his sentence for a total of up to seven years in prison.
