The man found dead on a sandbar in the Cedar River between Gilbertville and La Porte City on Sunday likely tripped and fell into his fire, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The man’s body was found around 10:00 a.m. Sunday. An investigation found that the man had been canoeing down the river by himself when he stopped to make a campsite on the sandbar to sleep overnight. The man’s name has not been released. An autopsy will be conducted.
