Man Shot by State Trooper Charged with Attempted Murder

A Butler County man who was shot by a state trooper during a Thanksgiving Day gun battle has now been charged with Attempted Murder, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Police were called to a home in rural Dougherty as 55 year old Michael Allen allegedly unloaded 20 bullets into the side of his mother’s home at 9 in the morning. As police arrived on scene Allen exchanged gunfire with law enforcement while he retreated into his own house, which is next door. He was shot during the exchange. During the standoff that ensued, three people were removed from his mother’s home with the use of an armored vehicle. Allen eventually surrendered and was taken to a hospital in Des Moines. In addition to the Attempted Murder charge, a restraining order was also issued. Allen is being held on a $175,000 bond. No law enforcement members were injured in the gunfight.
