A Waterloo man has been sentenced for stabbing another man in the heart in September, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 38 year old George Laurie Jr. stabbed 49 year old John Hughes in the area of Soldier and Sailors Park on September 22nd. A passerby found Hughes and flagged down a motorist who called 911. Hughes suffered a stab wound to the aorta and was rushed into surgery. Police found Laurie nearby with a knife covered in blood. When asked about the incident he told police, “You want a murder case, I will give you a murder case.” Laurie has been sentenced to up to 17 years in prison after being convicted of Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury and first degree Harassment. He must serve five years before becoming eligible for parole.
