Man Stole Semi-Automatic Riffle

According to KWWL, a Waterloo man who stole a semi-automatic rifle and other things from a friend’s home in Independence has been sentenced to six and a half years in federal prison.

28 year-old Cole McNamara pleaded guilty last year to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm for the October 2020 incident.

McNamara admitted to leaving a rehab facility and entering his friend’s home, taking the weapon, his friend’s wallet, and titles to his friend’s cars.

He was later arrested at the Isle of Capri Casino in Bettendorf with the items, as well as being in possession of methamphetamine.

McNamara is a convicted felon, drug user, and has been convicted of domestic violence.

At the sentencing hearing, McNamara said that he is “100% guilty of this crime,” and a judge said that he was a “one man crime wave.”

In addition to the six and a half years in prison, McNamara has been fined $100 and will serve a three-year supervised release after the sentence.
