We recently reported that Waverly’s east well had levels of PFAS or “forever chemicals” that exceeded the current levels regarded as safe. The two chemicals that make up PFAS were measured at 6.3 and 15 parts per trillion in the Waverly well. The current guidelines say the levels should be below 4 parts per trillion and that these chemicals could cause some cancers and low birth weights.
Waverly mayor Mark Anderson shared with us that no one gets water only from the east well as the water is co-mingled from multiple wells and that citizens of Waverly should not be concerned.
Anderson went on to say that the chemicals in the drinking water are to be compared with a couple of drops in an Olympic sized pool.
The latest Drinking Water Quality Report for the city of Waverly was done in 2023 and shows no violations.
