Mayor Won’t Sign Pride Month Declaration Due to His Faith

Cedar Falls Mayor Rob Green says his Christian beliefs will not allow him to support a proposal from the city’s Human Rights Commision to designate June as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Green says his stance is not made with animosity or to exclude anyone but says his understanding of the New Testament leads him to believe God intended marriage to be between one man and one woman and promotion or advocacy of any sexual activity outside of those bounds runs counter to his faith. Green did say that the City Council should consider adopting the proclamation on its own but he would eliminate any reference to his office from the declaration and would not sign it.
