The city of Cedar Falls is reminding families and friends about the guidelines surrounding the decorating of graves as the Memorial Day holiday approaches. Those guidelines include visitors may place temporary placements at the grave sites, however, they must be removed in a timely fashion after the holiday weekend so that the staff can maintain the grounds. City rules state that residents have three days after the holiday to remove the temporary items. Shepard hooks are allowed at the grave sites, but they must be drilled into the monument base if they are intended as a permanent fixture. No glass bottles are allowed on a grave site. No artificial flowers, wire structures, or other urns are to be placed directly into the ground at the grave site. They wrap up by saying that the goal of the City Parks staff is to provide a well maintained final resting place for families and avoid damaging any personal items.
