Michigan Man Sentenced After Oelwein Incident

A Michigan man has been sentenced for a gun police found after the man assaulted his girlfriend in Oelwein last year, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 33 year old Marquis Dickerson of Monroe, Michigan was arrested in Oelwein on August 16th of last year after he choked and spit on his girlfriend. After the girlfriend called a friend to come help her, Dickerson destroyed her phone. When police arrived on scene they found marijuana on Dickerson. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail on domestic abuse and drug charges. Police also found a 9mm gun in a closet with Dickerson’s belongings, however. For that he was charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and has now been sentenced to four years and four months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release. He was prohibited from possessing a firearm after a 2011 Robbery conviction in Michigan.
